Summer is over, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to sport a healthy glow. With my legs already donning pale signs of the coming winter, I picked up L’Oréal’s new Luminous Bronzer Self-Tanning Lotion from their Sublime Bronze collection.
After using the Self-Tanning Mist from their Sublime Bronze collection, I swore I’d never use another non-airbrush self tanner again, but this one intrigued me with its promise of instant shimmer. It’s a tinted lotion that bronzes any pasty pallor in seconds — and they are NOT kidding about the shimmer. Wow. If you’re going for a natural, sun-kissed glow, you may be a little overwhelmed; however, I kinda dug the ultra-radiant look and found it perfect for a night out.
The lotion takes a few minutes to dry and is a bit sticky in the meantime, but the scent is nice. My only other recommendation: wash your hands well after applying, and make sure to get your wrists and forearms — I didn’t have any stains between my fingers, but every time I’ve used it I manage to miss a little in cleaning up my wrists and end up with a few brown splotches.
The verdict: 8/10 – Great for a radiant glow on a night out, but not an all-purpose solution for a natural look.
Did you know that the sun can fade your hair color? Of course you did, you’re a smart little beauty and/or beach bunny. What you might not know is how to protect your haircolor from the sun’s rays — but luckily, L’Oreal has an answer for you with its EverPure UV Protect Spray.
One thing I loved about EverPure shampoo and conditioner was the scent, so I was happy to see they made sure to add the refreshing rosemary and mint to this product as well. Since the entire EverPure line is sulfate-free, you don’t have to worry about your hair becoming dry or damaged. The spray feels moisturizing when you first apply it — my only issue was that it felt a bit dry afterward.
The verdict: 8/10 – A lightweight spray that’s useful for everyone under the sun!
EverPure UV Protect Spray sells for about $8 at Amazon.com and drugstores everywhere. Get it while it’s (literally) hot!

Taylor Swift was princess-perfect while Lady Gaga went above and beyond
While “space punk” appeared to be a red carpet theme, artists like Taylor Swift,Beyonce and others all brought their individual style to MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards (case in point: Lady Gaga). Here, we present our most crave-worthy (and cringe-worthy) picks for hair and makeup.
Once the queen bee of Laguna Beach, Kristin Cavallari now seems to be embracing her newly metropolitan surroundings on The Hills with a look that’s anything but surfer chic. Kristin wore makeup by M∙A∙C Cosmetics to the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Sunday, September 13th. Here’s a rundown of the MAC makeup products used in creating Kristin’s look:
Though Taylor Swift might not have been the biggest diva at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards(Kanye West?) she certainly looked glam enough for the part. The songstress and Best Female Video award winner wore M∙A∙C Cosmetics to the event in New York City on Sunday, September 13th, and I have to say she looked utterly smashing!
Taylor’s lovely look was created using these M∙A∙C Cosmetics makeup products:
“The inspiration was created after looking through photographs of Brigitte Bardot,” MAC makeup artist Tom Pecheux says. “These are young girls who want to look made-up. Colourful, sweet and chic.” Here’s how to recreate this gorgeous look at home:
STEP I: EYE MAKEUP
Apply PRO Red Violet Eye Shadow to the eyelid from lash line
to brow and underneath the eye.
Add Fascinating Eye Kohl to inner corners to brighten the eye.
Layer Emphasize Sculpt and Shape Powder on top of the Fascinating Eye Kohl.
Layer Blackdazzle Dazzlelash Mascara through the top
and bottom lashes.
STEP II: FACE MAKEUP
Prep the skin with Studio Sculpt Foundation.
Sweep PRO Bright Coral Blush generously from the sides of your face,
over the temples, down around to your cheekbones.
Brush Emphasize Sculpt and Shape Powder onto the tops of
cheekbones and down the nose to highlight.
Dust Invisible Set Powder over skin to create a soft, matte finish.
STEP III: LIP MAKEUP
Brush Pink Burst Lipstick onto the lips for a fuchsia lip color.
Tap Invisible Set Powder over the lips for a soft, matte look.
Some stars are outrageously secretive when it comes to their beauty rituals, but Kim Kardashian is one celeb who’s been very forthcoming about her makeup routine. Kim sported all MAC makeup at the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday (she’s off to an all-star afterparty in the photo on the right — ah, the good life!).
Here are the specific M∙A∙C Cosmetics products used in creating Kim Kardashian’s VMAs look:
Can you believe New Moon is almost here? The next Twilight installment officially unveiled some never-before-seen clips at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and Kristen Stewart celebrated with a short ‘do that’s so edgy, it nearly has fangs.
Kristen was styled by Pantene’s celebrity stylist Hallie Bowman, who gave us a step-by-step guide on creating the look:
Hallie started by shampooing and conditioning Kristen’s hair with a moisturizing formula to create a good base for styling.
Next, Hallie cut Kristen’s bangs to create roundness around the cheekbones, a look that is complimentary to Kristen’s heart-shaped face.
Apply Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Gel from root to tip to begin building volume. Add Pantene Pro-V Texture Spray Wax to make hair more malleable for styling.
Then, Hallie blow-dried Kristen’s hair while brushing it away from the scalp, periodically flipping her hair over to ensure lots of volume at the crown.
Hallie then pinned sections of her hair back with bobby pins to secure it away from the face, leaving some pieces around the face to give the illusion of a bob with bangs – a nod to the bowl cut, but with a modern feel.
To polish off the look, Hallie used Pantene Pro-V Smooth Serum to give Kristen’s hair long lasting shine for the night.
I was loving the young, playful makeup and hair Twilight starlet Kristen Stewart sported at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, so I decided to give you guys a few tips on recreating her look! Here’s how to do it step-by-step:
Step I: Face Makeup
Apply a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer like Stila Sheer Color all over your face. We want to keep your skin’s natural beauty showing through — that’s the best way to keep your look young.
Dab a subtle bronzer at the base of your cheekbones, then blend forward lightly. This replaces the need for blush to enhance your color, keeping the look pale without it being Edward Cullen-pale!
Step II: Eyeshadow
You’ll need 3 shadow colors: gray, dark brown and a rosy pink (TIP: if you’re lacking a suitable pink shadow, just use one of your cooler-toned blush colors!)
Apply the grey eyeshadow shade all over the eyelid. Then, apply the rosy pink eyeshadow to the base of the browbone just above the crease and blend upward.
Using the dark brown shadow, apply to the outer corners of eyes and your eyelid crease. Blend outward from the corners and scoop the shadow upward slightly, suggesting a line from the shadow to the end of your eyebrow.
Step III: Finishing the Eyes and Lips
Run a colored eyebrow mascara (I like the one by MAC) through your brows, then smooth through with a Q-tip. Finish your brows with a deep brown eyebrow pencil — the brows in this look are sharp and intense, so don’t be afraid!
Line the inner rims of eyelids around the entire eye with a black kohl eyeliner pencil. Coat lashes twice with your favorite black mascara.
Lips are the easiest part of this look: a subtle shimmer like what the new shimmery Chapsticks offer will do just fine!
